HC Deb 21 July 1943 vol 391 c912W
Mr. Riley

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the actual amount to date which has been spent on schemes approved under the Colonial Development and Welfare Act since the passing of the Act in 1940; and the amount spent in Colonies other than the West Indies?

Colonel Stanley

Figures of actual expenditure in the Colonies are not available to any recent date, but the issues from the Exchequer to 30th June, 1943, in respect of all schemes made under the Colonial Development and Welfare Act amount to £742,924. Of this amount £357,428 was in respect of territories other than the West Indies. I would, however, remind my hon. Friend that the total estimated expenditure on schemes already approved under the Act is £4,431,169 of which £1,1910,736 has been approved for expenditure in Colonial territories other than the West Indies.
