BrownI have no information about the rents of privately owned houses which would enable me to supply the information desired, but, as my hon. and gallant Friend is aware, the Rent Restrictions Acts have prevented any increase in such rents over those payable on the 1st September, 1939. A return was obtained from local authorities in England and Wales showing the numbers and rents of houses and flats belonging to them at the 3oth June, 1936. The return was included in a White Paper Command 5527 published in July, 1937, of which I am sending my hon. and gallant Friend a copy and I would refer him to Table 1.
