Dr. Morganasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the rice ration in Jamaica which had been cut by half in August, 1942, has yet been restored; whether any scheme for increased rice production has been put in operation; and whether there are any possibilities of imports of surplus rice from British Guiana when available?
§ Colonel StanleyI am awaiting up-to-date information regarding the rationing of rice and other commodities in Jamaica. Steps have been taken by the Jamaica authorities to increase the cultivation of rice so far as local conditions allow. Part, at any rate, of Jamaica's requirements for 1943 will be met from British Guiana, but the final allocation of supplies from that source is at present under discussion with the Combined Food Board at Washington and has not yet been decided.
