HC Deb 21 January 1943 vol 386 c328W
Mr. Wootton-Davies

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been drawn to the complaints of doctors that they are overwhelmed with the signing of certificates; and whether he will consider the simplification of these duties?

Mr. E. Brown

I am aware of these complaints. In many cases the granting of some exemption or privilege must depend on the physical condition of the applicant, and the only suitable evidence of this is a medical certificate; I am grateful to the medical profession for the assistance they have given. I have been consuited both by the other Government Departments concerned and by the medical profession and am always ready to discuss proposals for restricting and if possible reducing the number of purposes for which medical certicates are required.
