§ Mr. Lewisasked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that, although in some areas persons whose incomes exceeded £350 had, until recently, to pay £7 for a Morrison table shelter, whereas, in these same areas, such persons can now obtain a free issue of such shelters, no provision appears to have been made to enable those who paid for their shelters to obtain a refund of the amount paid; and whether he proposes to take any steps to redeem this inequality?
§ Mr. H. MorrisonI am aware of the position to which my hon. Friend refers, but it accords with the established principle that financial concessions in respect of the provision of air raid shelter should not be applied retrospectively and I cannot see my way to take any action in the matter.
