NOTES.—(i) Pre-war Income Tax is calculated at the rates in force at the beginning of the war.
(ii) Rates of pay shown are those for Officers of the Executive Branch.
(iii) It is assumed that single Lieutenant-Commanders of 12 years' seniority and single Commanders of 12 years' seniority are on Scale "A" rates of pay: otherwise, Scale "B" rates are shown.
(iv) For Officers serving in London the position of those at the Admiralty and, therefore, in receipt of Admiralty Allowance, has been shown. Others draw the same emoluments as at Home Ports. It is also assumed that none of the Officers is in receipt of any other duty or specialist allowances.
(v) It is assumed that none of the Officers is provided with Service accommodation or victualling and that married Officers are living in the same accommodation with their wives. Since the war, married Officers not in Service accommodation may draw both Lodging and Marriage Allowance if their wives are residing elsewhere. Both these allowances have been freed from Income Tax during the war.
(vi) No allowance has been made for children, either for the purpose of Income Tax abatements or for the award of Children's Allowances.
