§ Sir P. Hurdasked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the shortage of thatchers for essential repairs of rural houses the local officers of the Ministry are directed to consult with the rural district councils before experienced thatchers are called for the Armed Forces?
§ Mr. BevinCounty war agricultural executive committees are consulted before thatchers who have been identified as rural craftsmen are called up. I have no reason to think that this arrangement fails to retain the services of thatchers who are needed for essential repairs to rural houses, and I do not think the additional consultation suggested by my honourable Friend is needed. If he will send me particulars of any case that he may have in mind inquiries will be made.
