HC Deb 05 August 1943 vol 391 c2478W
Mr. E. Smith

asked the Minister of Health whether the employers should fix stamps on the National Health Insurance cards of all employees for the holiday period during which time the insured contributor receives the holiday payment?

Mr. E. Brown

If an employed contributor is entitled to receive remuneration from his employer in respect of a holiday period, the employer is liable to pay health insurance and pensions contributions in respect of the contributor for that period. The question whether a holiday payment constitutes remuneration in respect of the holiday period depends upon the terms of the contract of employment and the conditions of the particular holiday scheme.
