HC Deb 05 August 1943 vol 391 c2487W
Mr. Molson

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that while the wife of T70216 Company Sergeant-major Edward George Saword, of 3, Myrtle Terrace, Mumbles, Swansea, has been deprived of pay allowances after 26 weeks, she has been held ineligible for an education grant for her two children on the ground that her husband, although posted missing in Greece two and a half years ago, has not yet been presumed killed; and whether he will take steps to rectify an anomaly which deprives this soldier's family of the pay and allowances due if he is living and of the allowance due if he is dead?

Mr. A. Henderson

I regret that Mrs. Saword's application for an education grant was rejected in error. Her case is being investigated and Mrs. Saword has been informed of the position. Her husband is posted as missing and she is drawing the appropriate continuing allowance of 53s. od. a week. From 16th August this will be increased to 59s. od. a week.
