HC Deb 04 August 1943 vol 391 cc2322-3W
Mr. Crawford Greene

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that the "News Chronicle" newspaper, of 16th July, published an article containing imputations against the conduct of American troops in England, and particularly those stationed in Worcester and Peterborough; and whether, having regard to the fact that this article is calculated to cause great resentment among American troops in this country and in the United States, he will consider taking appropriate action against the newspaper responsible for this calumny?

Mr. H. Morrison

Yes, Sir, I have seen the article, and I have also seen statements which have since been published by the mayors of Worcester and Peterborough repudiating the imputation of the article in regard to the conduct of American troops in their respective cities. I do not think that action on my part is called for.
