HC Deb 04 August 1943 vol 391 c2322W
Mr. Thorne

asked the Home Secretary whether he can make a statement about the manner in which the people of the Channel Islands, Jersey and Guernsey, are being treated by the German officials; whether their garden produce is sent away to Germany; and whether he is taking any steps to help the people in these islands?

Mr. Peake

As regards the first two parts of the Question, my hon. Friend will appreciate that, while my right hon. Friend is naturally anxious to collect such information as can be derived from various sources, it is of too fragmentary a nature to justify the making of a statement to the House. As regards the third part, the best way to help our fellow countrymen in the Islands is to bring the war to a victorious and speedy conclusion.
