HC Deb 03 August 1943 vol 391 c2099W
Sir R. Gower

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will investigate the laundry custom of replacing a lost article at 20 times the washing fate, as this practice tends to the disappearance of articles of clothing in view of the present high cost?

Mr. Dalton

Some months ago, my director of laundry services discussed this custom of the trade with the Institution of British Launderers, which, at his request, advised their members to waive this limitation, when they were satisfied that a larger claim would be justified.
