§ Mr. Martinasked the President of the Board of Trade whether the Allied Post-War Requirements Bureau has yet been established on a specifically inter-Allied footing; and, if not, what plans exist for so establishing it?
§ Mr. JohnstoneNo, Sir. The present bureau is a small British secretariat attached to the Inter-Allied Committee. The estimates of post-war requirements presented by the Allied Governments and authorities are being co-ordinated by the Inter-Allied Committee itself, working through a series of sub-Committees on which all the Allied Governments and authorities concerned are represented. These committees provide the inter-allied basis for the work and there has been no need for an inter-allied secretariat. The future organisation of the bureau will be dependent upon the outcome of the discussions on the organisation of relief on a United Nations basis.
