HC Deb 20 April 1943 vol 388 cc1549-50W
Mr. R. Morgan

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been called to the expression of hope by the Institute of Taxation, of which a copy has been sent to him, that in these days of shortage of staffs and overwork, inspectors of taxes will be instructed to show the maximum consideration to those engaged in accounting work in connection with the compilation of tax returns; and whether he will give instructions accordingly?

Sir K. Wood

The Board of Inland Revenue's instructions to their inspectors of taxes expressly provide that in view of war-time conditions, inquiries, detailed calculations and correspondence should be reduced to a minimum and I have no reason to believe that these instructions are not being generally observed.
