HC Deb 14 April 1943 vol 388 c1241W
Sir G. Jeffreys

asked the Minister of Information whether he will ensure that the North African communiqués are read out verbatim in the British Broadcasting Corporation's Home Service of news every evening and not paraphrased or not replaced by descriptive telegrams from war correspondents?

Mr. Bracken

No, Sir. The B.B.C.'s aim is to be understood by all its listeners, and it would be a mistake to assume that to read out an official communiqué verbatim is necessarily the best method of securing this.
