HC Deb 13 April 1943 vol 388 cc1076-7W
Mr. Etherton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why Statutory Rule and Order, 1943, No. 371, is necessary, and what is the nature of the other arrangements which it is contemplated by the note to the order the National Debt Commissioners may make as to the receipt and repayment of money?

Sir K. Wood

In reply to the first part of the Question, the Order is necessary to facilitate the participation of trustee savings banks in schemes for war savings in industrial establishments. In reply to the second part, as stated in Sub-section (1) of the Regulation, the arrangements in accordance with which the National Debt Commissioners may authorise the receipt and payment of deposits are the arrangements approved by the trustee savings banks inspection committee. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of a circular giving details of arrangements so far approved.
