HC Deb 30 September 1942 vol 383 c803W
Mr. Hannah

asked the President of the Board of Education why members of the G.T.C. have to buy their own uniforms, using their own coupons, and have no winter coats, while others doing work of similar value have such requisites found at the public expense?

Mr. Ede

In this matter the National Association of Girls' Training Corps is. in the same position as the other uniformed voluntary organisations, the Scouts, the Guides and the Brigades, whose members buy their own uniforms. My Department have been in touch with the Board of Trade on the subject of some concession in the surrender of coupons, but in the present very difficult conditions of supply the Board of Trade have not seen their way to make any concession. As regards the supply of materials I have nothing to add to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade to my hon. Friend the Member for West Lewisham (Mr. Brooke) on 8th September.
