HC Deb 29 September 1942 vol 383 c689W
Mr. Naylor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the approximate amount of extra revenue derived from the increased taxation of tobacco during the three months following the imposition of the higher rate of tax; and whether he is satisfied that the extra tax is yielding such increase of revenue as he anticipated when introducing his Budget proposals?

Sir K. Wood

The net receipts from the tobacco duties in the three months May to July, 1942, were approximately £30,000,000 more than in the corresponding period in 1941. This increase is fully up to Budget expectations.
