HC Deb 11 September 1942 vol 383 c536W
Mr. Kirby

asked the President of the Board of Trade what steps he has taken, and is taking, to maintain and improve our export cotton trade?

Mr. Johnstone

The supply of cotton goods overseas is now directed to meet only the minimum essential requirements of the Empire and other areas dependent on us for supplies. Normal commercial considerations have had to be subordinated to the overriding needs of the war.
