HC Deb 10 September 1942 vol 383 cc322-3W
Sir F. Fremantle

asked the Minister of Agriculture to what extent the National Milk Testing and Advisory Scheme, announced in Cmd. 6362, is now in operation; what percentage of the milk has been passed for salvage price; and what percentage has been rejected as worthless?

Mr. Hudson

By the end of this month the test provisions of the scheme will be in operation at most of the larger dairies and milk depots in the country, in conjunction with the advisory service to farmers whose milk is found to be below standard. The application of the test to small units and producer retailers presents practical problems which are now under consideration by the advisory committee. For the present the introduction of the differential price system contemplated under the scheme is being deferred.
