HC Deb 08 September 1942 vol 383 cc53-4W
Sir R. Gower

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether his Department is taking any steps and, if so, of what nature, to improve the distribution of sausages?

Mr. Mabane

All general butchers receive in proportion to their total requirements of meat for their customers an allowance of meat from which to make sausages and other small manufactured goods. In order to increase the supplies of sausages this allowance for manufacture was increased from 5 per cent. to 6 per cent. of the value of the butchers' buying permits as from the 4th May, 1942. Steps to eliminate unnecessary transport in the distribution are now under consideration.
