HC Deb 08 September 1942 vol 383 c66W
Captain Ramsay

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has in his office plans prepared some years ago for the construction of a sea level canal capable of conveying battleships from the Clyde to the Forth; and, if so, will he forward the same to the Minister dealing with post-war planning in order that this scheme may receive serious attention?

Mr. Johnston

This proposal was the subject of a report by a committee appointed in 1929 by the Minister of Transport. The report was published in August, 1930. As the Minister responsible for post-war planning in Scotland, I shall maintain the closest contact with my right hon. Friend the Minister of War Transport on all proposals for transport development in Scotland.
