HC Deb 22 October 1942 vol 383 cc2147-8W
Wing-Commander Hulbert

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he will issue instructions that Women's Auxiliary Air Force officers employed on balloon duties be permitted to wear battle-dress as a measure of economy in uniform and general suitability for the work involved?

Sir A. Sinclair

W.A.A.F. officers are not actually employed on handling balloons and therefore the necessity for them to wear battle-dress is not so strong as for airwomen who are engaged on this duty. I am, however, examining the question whether officers should also wear the battle-dress having regard to possible future re-allocation of balloon duties to officers.
