HC Deb 22 October 1942 vol 383 cc2146-7W
Mr. Harvey

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether his attention has been called to the serious hardship to students and part-time students arising from the withdrawal of cheap travel tickets; and whether he will consider some special concession in such cases?

Mr. Noel-Baker

As I said in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for London University (Sir E. Graham-Little) on 14th October, the withdrawal of cheap day tickets was a necessary measure which my Noble Friend adopted with great regret. He is, however, convinced that to make these special concessions urged by my hon. Friend would lead to similar demands by others with equal claims to consideration, and would thus defeat the purpose which he has in view.
