HC Deb 26 November 1942 vol 385 c894W
Dr. Morgan

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any medical reports or statistics are available contrasting the measures taken for health protection and malaria control in Dakar and in Freetown; and whether appropriate measures have been taken to avoid a high casualty sick list and a high malarial incidence rate amongst European troops in the strategic areas of West Africa?

Colonel Stanley

I am not aware of any reliable and up-to-date information being available about health measures at Dakar. As regards the second part of the Question, the problem of malaria control in West Africa is formidable and is rendered more so by exceptional difficulties arising from war conditions, but my hon. Friend can rest assured that strenuous efforts to combat this disease are being made in close co-operation between civil and Service authorities and that this matter is a special concern of the Resident Minister.
