HC Deb 19 November 1942 vol 385 c540W
Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that in many cases men working in firms under the Essential Work Order who volunteer for the Forces do not get their pay made up by the firms concerned, lose their job at the end of the war and forego their pension; and whether he will take steps to see that in such cases men are not penalised?

Mr. Bevin

I have no power to require employers to make up the pay of men who join the Forces. As regards reinstatement at the end of the war, I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to the hon. Member for Bassetlaw (Mr. Bellenger) on 17th November, a copy of which I am sending him.
