§ Captain Grahamasked the Secretary of State for War whether, following the precedent of the last war, officers and men taking part in the Dieppe raid or other frontline duties were forbidden to take any written orders or papers with them, and were searched to ensure that this order was complied with; and whether he will give orders that such precautions shall in future be rigidly carried out?
§ Sir J. GriggThe general instructions were on the lines suggested in my hon. and gallant Friend's Question. But I understand that a very few written orders were taken on the raid with due authority, and that a few of the individual searches were not carried out. Steps have been taken to ensure that instructions on the normal lines are fully carried out in future.
