HC Deb 10 November 1942 vol 383 c2311W
Mr. Hewlett

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether, in view of the desire of his Department to restrict, as far as possible, travelling by road vehicles, with a view to saving petrol, etc., he will investigate the charges of the electric railway system between Altrincham and Manchester under which the third-class single fare has now been advanced to 1s. 2d. and the third-class return fare to 1s. 8d., whereas the Manchester Corporation omnibuses run between Altrincham and Manchester for 7d.; and whether he will make a substantial reduction in railway charges?

Mr. Noel-Baker

I am making inquiries and will communicate with my hon. Friend.
