HC Deb 25 March 1942 vol 378 c2003W
Mr. Batey

asked the Secretary for Mines when the Coal Commission will issue a report of their work since the establishment of the commission; and showing what is now the position in regard to mining royalty rents?

Mr. Grenfell

The reports of the Coal Commission for the years 1938 and 1939 were laid before Parliament in accordance with Section 57 (b) of the Coal Act, 1938. They were printed and published by order of this House (H.C. 122–1940). The report for 1940 was presented to Parliament in September, 1941, but, owing to wartime restrictions, was not printed. The report for 1941 is likely to be presented during the next few weeks. The position in regard to mining royalty rents is that they are payable to the private royalty owners until they pass to the Coal Commission on the 1st July, 1942, as provided for by the Act.
