HL Deb 24 March 1942 vol 122 c426WA
LORD BARNBY

asked His Majesty's Government if all Departments of Government or Departments under direct orders of Government, which are currently producers or distributors of bread, are instructed to deal solely in national whole meal bread, and if so what portion this is estimated to represent of the current bread production (other than home baked) in the United Kingdom.

THE MINISTER OF FOOD (LORD WOOLTON)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative and the second part therefore does not arise. I would, however, remind the noble Lord that, as I announced in this House on March 11, on and after April 6 no bread other than National Bread and certain speciality brown flours will be on sale in this country.
