HC Deb 19 March 1942 vol 378 c1685W
Mr. Rostron Duckworth

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he can give any estimate of the annual saving in shipping space which will result from making wholemeal bread compulsory in place of white bread?

Major Lloyd George

No, Sir. It is not in the national interest that the quantity of foodstuffs imported into this country in time of war should be disclosed. Any estimate of the saving in imports which might result from the raising of the extraction rate would be equivalent to disclosing the total quantity of wheat imported.
