HC Deb 19 March 1942 vol 378 c1681W
Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether changes in the period of service of nominated members of the Legislative and Executive Council of Northern Rhodesia have yet been proposed; and whether other constitutional changes are contemplated?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

Under the Northern Rhodesian Constitutional Instruments there is no prescribed period of appointment for the nominated members of the Legislative and Executive Councils. The life of the Legislative Council is three years. But it is open to the Governor to recommend a nominated member for reappointment. In practice, the period of appointment of nominated members to the Executive Council is normally for so long as the persons concerned remain members of the Legislative Council.
