HC Deb 18 March 1942 vol 378 c1523W
Mr. Oliver

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that bread is delivered several times a week from Sheffield into Heanor and other towns in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, a distance of between 30 and 40 miles; and whether, in view of the need for economy in petrol and the capacity of the local bakers to supply local requirements, he will take steps to inquire into this matter with a view to terminating this practice?

Major Lloyd George

I have already taken steps to obtain information as to whether it would be in the national interest to curtail the long-distance transportation of bread to which my hon. Friend has referred.
