HC Deb 17 March 1942 vol 378 c1347W
Mr. Parker

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether recruits attesting for service are informed that they can state their religious beliefs as agnostic or rationalist; and whether he will take steps to see that persons in these categories suffer no disability?

Mr. Sandys

A notice which says that every recruit is entitled to be classified for religion in the Army in accordance with his own declaration on the subject is displayed in every recruiting office. In accordance with this a recruit may declare himself a rationalist or agnostic and will not suffer for so doing.
