HC Deb 04 March 1942 vol 378 c658W
Sir C. Rawson

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether any information can be given as to the delay in granting the application of a long service pension to Leading Stoker Alfred John Borrer, P/K 64374, which was applied for some six months ago; and can the matter be expedited?

Mr. Alexander

It is regretted that consideration of this man's claim has been rather long. It seemed possible, however, that a pension might be awarded with effect from February, 1937, instead of from August, 1941, which was the date from which the man claimed. The checking of this involved the examination of old records which necessarily took some time to complete. It has now been confirmed that this man is eligible for pension from the earlier date and payment of substantial arrears has been authorised. The delay has therefore been very much to the man's advantage.
