HC Deb 04 March 1942 vol 378 cc656-7W
Mr. Liddall

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, in view of the fact that fat pigs are being sold in the markets as stores and then after only a few weeks are slaughtered for home consumption, he will order all persons who intend feeding a pig for their own consumption to give two months' notice of such intention instead of, as at present, giving two months' notice that they desire to slaughter a pig?

Major Lloyd George

As from September, 1941, an applicant for a licence to slaughter for home consumption has been required to give fourteen days' notice of his intention to do so, not two months as my hon. Friend suggests. The regulations also require an undertaking to be given by the applicant that he has been feeding the pig for at least two months prior to the date of slaughter. I am unable to amend the regulations in the manner suggested.

Mr. Liddall

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food the number of pigs slaughtered on private owners' permits between 1st October and 31st December, 1941?

Major Lloyd George

My Noble Friend feels that the publication of figures of this nature is not in the public interest.
