Mr. Creech Jonesasked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the schemes, which it was hoped would be formulated under the Colonial Development and Welfare Act in British Honduras and the comprehensive schemes anticipated from the Governor in an answer given on 28th May, 1941, have, in fact, been formulated?
§ Mr. Harold MacmillanYes, Sir. A scheme has been made under the Colonial Development and Welfare Act for the building of a road from Belize, the capital of the Colony, to Cayo in the interior, and a free grant of up to £187,500, to be spent over a period of seven years, has been approved for this purpose. This road will not only be a considerable source of employment, but will serve to open up a district which has agricultural possibilities.
