HC Deb 04 June 1942 vol 380 cc827-8W
Colonel Carver

asked the Minister of Health whether it is proposed to close in London any first-aid posts and, if so, which; and on what other duties voluntary workers are to be employed?

Mr. E. Brown

I am informed that since 31st December the Regional Commissioners for the London Region have approved the closing of 15 first-aid posts; in addition to 58 being placed upon a care and maintenance basis and the staffing of three posts at hospitals by the hospital instead of by civil defence personnel. I am sending my hon. and gallant Friend a list of the posts concerned. Personnel released cease to be the employees of the local authority. The intention is that they should be diverted to other employment essential to the war effort and it is hoped that in view of their training in nursing duties, many will be employed in hospitals, war-time nurseries and in similar work.
