§ Sir A. DuncanLarge quantities of synthetic rubber are being made in the United States, where the necessary raw materials are readily available. Importation of the raw materials for large scale production in this country would impose a heavy additional burden on our shipping resources. I have, however, appointed a Synthetic Rubber Committee which is keeping the whole situation under review; and steps have been taken for the production in this country of substantial quantities of a rubber substitute material.
