Mr. Rostron Duckworthasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Buildings why there is a shortage of glass, since the tenants of so many damaged houses are not replacing their windows at present; and whether he will make it clear that, should the cost of window-glass rise materially, claimants under the War Damage Act will be allowed to remodel the amount of their claims for compensation?
§ Mr. HicksAs regards the first part of the Question, I regret that I am unable, in the absence of the information which I asked the hon. Member to send to me, to add to the reply which I gave to him on 4th December. As regards the second part, I am informed that final claims for 377W repairs to property are not submitted to the War Damage Commission until the work has been completed. In these circumstances, no question of remodelling the claim arises.
