HC Deb 19 February 1942 vol 377 cc1909-10W
Mr. Tinker

asked the Home Secretary whether he has considered a resolution from the Leigh Town Council calling his attention to the excessive expenditure and high salaries being paid under the National Fire Service and will he make a statement upon it?

Mr. H. Morrison

I have received a copy of the resolution passed by the borough council and am making inquiries into the specific allegations of waste and improper use of Fire Service vehicles which have been made by the council. I do not accept the suggestion that unnecessarily high salaries are paid in the National Fire Service. The salaries take full account of the scales in comparable services, both national and local.
