HC Deb 11 February 1942 vol 377 cc1542-3W
Mr. David Adams

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that, under the Postal Censorship (General) Order, 1941, all local postal correspondence in Jamaica must bear upon the envelopes the names and addresses of senders, and all letters not so marked are confiscated by the authorities; and, as this is an infringement of the Jamaican people's right, causing business dislocation, damage to personal relationships and other disabilities, and, in view of the limited education of the majority of the population, making the enforcement of the regulations virtually impossible, whether he will take steps to rescind these regulations?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

Inquiries are being made of the Governor of Jamaica and I will communicate with my hon. Friend when a reply has been received.
