HC Deb 11 February 1942 vol 377 cc1543-4W
Mr. Keeling

asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of the increasing number of British officers in India, he will consult with the Government of India with a view to the extension of the "Say it by Numbers" scheme for cheap telegrams to and from the Forces, to be extended to India?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

There is already a cheap service of telegrams with the Forces in India at 5d. a word with a minimum charge of 2s. 6d. and free address. The adoption of the standard text arrangement at a faxed charge of 2s. 6d. has already been Proposed to the Government of India, which, after careful consideration of the special local problems involved, felt unable to adopt it.
