§ Major Lyonsasked the Secretary of State for War whether he will have inquiries made as to how many skilled, or semi-skilled, tradesmen of low medical category are at present serving in static units or depots of the Royal Army Service Corps and Royal Army Ordnance Corps and, not being whole-time engaged at their trades, are carrying out unskilled or fatigue duties which could equally well be done by others; and whether such men will be promptly transferred to munition work in civil life if not required at their trades?
§ Sir E. GriggThe question of the disposal of any semi-skilled or skilled low medical category tradesmen now in the Army and not fully employed as tradesmen is under active consideration by the War Office as a result of the Beveridge Committee Report. I cannot give precise figures as the numbers fluctuate very considerably. A soldier's medical category is of course taken into account when any 1415W application is made for his release to industry.
