HC Deb 17 December 1942 vol 385 c2105W
Colonel Carver

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that farmers are behind with their sugar-beet harvest; and whether he will arrange for a concentrated labour effort to deal with it before severe frosts come?

Mr. Hudson

The latest information in my possession is that most of the sugar-beet crop has now been lifted and I am expecting that, with the assistance of soldiers and prisoners of war who have been concentrated on this work in the eastern counties, it will be possible to finish lifting within the next three or four weeks.
