HC Deb 15 December 1942 vol 385 c1801W
Captain Strickland

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he will give further consideration to the automatic discharge of men over 50 years of age from certain duties in the Royal Observer Corps and substitute an efficiency examination in those duties as a better test of ability to continue in that work?

Sir A. Sinclair

The course suggested by my hon. and gallant Friend was very carefully considered before the new policy was approved and the objections were found to be insuperable.

Sir A. Maitland

asked the Secretary of State for Air if he is aware that the recent order in regard to men over 50 years of age in the Royal Observer Corps affects one-third of the number of men at the Exeter centre; and if this proportion is representative of the members of the corps throughout the country?

Sir A. Sinclair

Twenty-seven per cent. of the men at the centre in question are affected by the recent change. The average for the whole country is appreciably less.
