§ Dr. Petersasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that officers and men have recently walked out of concerts being given by Entertainments National Service Association owing to the obscene language of comedians; and whether he will take steps to put an end to this kind of entertainment?
§ Sir J. GriggI am not aware that Army officers and men have walked out of con- 1723W certs given by E.N.S.A. in the circumstances described by my hon. Friend but if he will send me particulars of the case to which he refers I will have it investigated. All comedians employed by E.N.S.A. have strict instructions not to use obscene language of any kind and I am satisfied that these instructions are in general obeyed. The script of all entertainments and their dress rehearsals are carefully scrutinised at E.N.S.A. headquarters before they are approved. The entertainments are inspected while they are on tour by E.N.S.A.'s area organisers and the entertainments officer of the unit to which the show is given signs a report on every performance.
