HC Deb 04 August 1942 vol 382 c870W
Sir G. Jeffreys

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the hardships entailed in many families by calling up the sole domestic worker, he has investigated the use made of the woman-power now employed in conducting football pools; and whether there is a regular comb-out of these young women who could do more effective war service?

Mr. Bevin

I am informed that with very few exceptions all women who come within the scope of the National Service Acts and the Registration for Employment Order have already been withdrawn from these undertakings. If my honourable and gallant Friend will give me particulars of any football pools business where young women are being employed I shall be glad to make further inquiries.
