HC Deb 04 August 1942 vol 382 cc861-2W
Mr. Touche

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been called to the fact that companies, whose property is in enemy-occupied territories and who are, in consequence, unable to obtain annual accounts from territories are nevertheless required by the Companies Act to republish annually the last available balance sheet; and, as this procedure provides no additional information to shareholders and involves waste of paper and labour, would he take steps to exempt such companies from this requirement after an application to the Board of Trade?

Mr. Dalton

Yes, Sir. In such circumstances as those referred to in the Question, I am prepared, on application by a company, to relax the present requirements of the Companies Act in regard to the presentation of accounts.
