HC Deb 11 September 1941 vol 374 c320W
Mr. Viant

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether his attention has been directed to the serious increase in road accidents, there being 618 persons killed in June of this year, as compared with 479 in June, 1940, and 647 killed in July, making an increase of 29 per cent. over the previous month or 69 per cent. over the corresponding month in 1940; and will he consider reinstituting the driving test?

Colonel Llewellin

Yes, Sir. I am of course well aware of the deplorable increase in road accidents but I regret that driving tests cannot be resumed at present as sufficient qualified examiners are not available. Special arrangements have however been made for testing drivers who suffer from disabilities and for tests ordered by a Court.
